Razer Pro Type Ergo: Wireless split keyboard for everyday office use presented

With the Pro Type Ergo, Razer is launching a new wireless split keyboard on the market that is explicitly aimed at people who spend many hours a day working at a computer. The special feature: Instead of relying on a classic layout, Razer splits the keyboard into two halves – an ergonomic concept that has so far mainly been used by specialized manufacturers such as Kinesis or Logitech (Ergo K860). With a price of 199.99 euros and immediate availability, Razer wants to shake up the ergonomic keyboard landscape in the office segment.

Split layout for a more natural hand position

The heart of the Pro Type Ergo is its split, ergonomic layout. By splitting the key halves, hands and arms can rest in a more natural alignment – lateral movements are minimized, which should reduce strain, especially during long typing sessions. Razer emphasizes that the layout is designed to feel familiar from day one, making it easier for newcomers to switch to a split keyboard.

A base tilt of 10° is built in; in addition, five typing angles can be selected: flat (0°), tilted forwards at -4° or -7° and backwards at +4° or +7°. This makes the keyboard flexible for both sitting and standing workstations. A soft padded palm rest is directly integrated and is designed to reduce pressure on the wrists during the working day.

Practical: Razer installs two “B” keys, double spacebars and a central backspace key – both thumbs can thus take over frequently used inputs without having to cross fingers.

Low-profile switches and quiet typing feel

For the key structure, Razer relies on ultra-flat, fingertip-shaped keycaps with a shortened stroke. This is intended to reduce finger movements and the force required per keystroke. Discreet, spherical indentations on the keycaps guide the fingertips into the optimum position – a feature that is otherwise more familiar from premium ergonomic keyboards such as the Logitech MX Keys.

Sound-absorbing layers and tuned stabilizers also ensure a quiet typing experience. Anyone who works from home or in open offices and doesn’t want to disturb colleagues will appreciate this.

Command Dial and AI Prompt Master as workflow features

Razer has integrated five dedicated macro keys, a separate microphone mute button and the Razer Command Dial directly into the Pro Type Ergo keyboard. The dial is preconfigured ex works for common workflows – document navigation, media control and app-specific shortcuts. Using Razer Synapse, the range of functions can be extended to dozens of user-defined actions: scrolling, zooming, timeline scrubbing or tool changes become a simple turning action.

A new feature is the AI Prompt Master: a dedicated button enables direct access to AI-supported functions such as text summaries, email drafts or research workflows – without having to constantly switch between applications. Razer positions the feature as a workflow accelerator that leaves control with the user.

Connectivity and battery life

The Pro Type Ergo supports five connection types: Razer HyperSpeed Wireless (2.4 GHz), three Bluetooth profiles and wired USB-C operation. This allows you to keep your desktop PC, laptop and tablet connected at the same time and switch between them at lightning speed – practical for hybrid working.

According to Razer, the integrated battery should last up to three months of typical office use per charge. By comparison, the Razer DeathStalker V2 Pro lasts around 40 hours. Three months would be an impressive figure – although the Chroma RGB backlighting is likely to be greatly reduced or deactivated.

The RGB lighting is zone-based and, according to Razer, is discreet enough for business use. The overall design of the keyboard is minimalist and blends into professional working environments.

Classification: Razer in the ergonomics market

With the Pro Type Ergo, Razer is entering a segment previously dominated by Logitech (Ergo K860, ~€130) and specialized providers such as Kinesis. The combination of split layout, integrated workflow tools and the typical Razer connectivity is unprecedented on the market. The price of €199.99 is ambitious – but for a split keyboard with this range of functions, it is certainly justifiable.

Those who are already familiar with Razer’s productivity line – for example through the first-generation Razer Pro Type – will find many familiar features, but will also recognize the clear evolution towards true ergonomic design. We will provide a hands-on test at a later date.
